FC Goa will play against Bengaluru FC at their home ground in Fatorda. Midfielder Carl McHugh shared his thoughts on the team's performance and the upcoming game, highlighting both challenges and hopes for improvement.
Reflecting on the team's struggles this season, McHugh noted that, unlike last year when FC Goa achieved impressive results, the current campaign has been marked by difficulties, particularly in defense. "It's disappointing. Everyone's disappointed, especially with the amount of goals we're conceding," McHugh said. He pointed out that many of the goals conceded have been due to individual errors, which are tough to address consistently.
Despite these challenges, McHugh believes there have been positive aspects to their performances. "We could have earned better results than what we have," he stated, emphasizing that it's still early in the season with only six games played. He remains optimistic, urging fans to stay calm and confident in the squad's ability to turn things around.
As FC Goa faces Bengaluru FC, who have had a strong start to the season, McHugh acknowledges the challenge ahead. "Bengaluru FC are a good team," he said, recognizing that they likely enter the match as favorites based on recent performances. However, he stressed that FC Goa is also a strong team and is determined to correct their poor results at home.
"We've prepared well for this game and we're fully focused on getting a result," McHugh added. He highlighted the importance of the next two matches before the international break, underlining the team's commitment to achieving positive results.
When asked about his confidence in the team’s ability to improve, McHugh reflected on their competitive spirit. "In the 86 games we've played, we've not been dominated by any side," he noted. He believes the team could have secured points in all their matches, except for a challenging first half against Mumbai.
McHugh emphasized that football often comes down to small margins and that FC Goa needs to focus on the details. "If we can manage better and have a bit of luck, it can turn results in our favor," he explained. The atmosphere in training remains positive, with a strong desire among players to succeed and change their fortunes.
