Dempo Sports Club knocked out FC Goa developmental side 6-4 via tie-breaker to move into the title clash in the Goa Police Cup football tournament organised by Goa Police Sports Club Sports Cell at GFA Duler ground, on Wednesday. The teams were tied 1-1 in the normal period.
it was a tightly contested affair, the teams tried their best to break the deadlock but the defenders stood tall in protecting their citadel. FC Goa managed to break free from the shackles when Lalremruata slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap-shot, 1-0.
The second half turned livelier with the Golden Eagles showing urgency as they made sorties in the rival box. Persistent forays paid of the dividends as in the 60th minute, Pedro Gonsalves beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish. With the time running out, both the teams went all guns blazing but a match-winner eluded them.
In the penalty shootout, Pedro Gonsalves, Klusner Pereira, Rajat Harijan, Edwin Viegas and Shubham Malvankar were on target for Dempo while Lesly Rebello, Ivon Costa and Lalremruata found the mark for FC Goa.
