The indoor sports complexes in the State are likely to be allowed to reopen next week, a delegation of Goa Olympic Association (GOA) has been informed by Secretary of Sports J Ashok Kumar.
The GOA delegation met Kumar to apprise him of the issues faced by the athletes and State sports associations which were hindering the prospects of sports. The delegation, led by Secretary General Gurudatta Bhakta along with three representatives “ Sandeep Heble, Rajendra Godinho and Hemang Doshi, handed over a memorandum listing out some urgent steps required to bring sports back to normalcy after the lengthy break due to Covid 19 pandemic. Opening of Indoor sports complexes for resumption of sports activities, repair works at Indoor stadium at Chicalim where significant damage has occurred due to torrential rains, and pending grants of State level sports associations were some of the issues discussed.
During the meeting, the Secretary of Sports clarified that restrictions on outdoor sports complexes have been removed and outdoor sports athletes can start practising. Most sectors have opened up and restrictions on indoor sports complexes are also likely to be withdrawn after July 12, he informed.
