Don Bosco College, Panaji were crowned the overall men's champions while Govt. College, Quepem won the women's title at 35th Inter Collegiate Athletic Men's and Women's Championship 2022-23 organised recently by Goa University at Athletic Stadium, Bambolim.
Around 1,000 athletes from 46 colleges participated in the three-day championship. For the first time at the competition, photo finish technology was set up.
Chief guest for the opening ceremony, Prof Savio Fallerio, Principal, Fr Agnel College, Pilar, declared the meet open. Guest of Honour, Milton Fernandes, former Asst. Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University, also graced the opening ceremony.
The chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony, Padma Shri Brahmanand Sankhwalkar graced the occasion and presented trophies and medals to the winners. Teddy Cardoso of Don Bosco College, Panaji registered a new meet record in 5000m men with a timing of 14.50.95. Best Athlete Male and Female of the championship was awarded to Moses Mascarenhas of Govt. College, Quepem and Kunika Harmalkar of DM’s College and Research Centre, Assagao respectively.
The results: Overall championship - Men's winners - Don Bosco College, Panaji, Runners-up - Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim, Second runners-up: Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem; Women's winners - Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem, runners-up - St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, second runner-up - Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao.
