Mandopa SC enter quarterfinals

MARGAO

Mandopa SC, Navelim edged past Curtorim Gymkhana 5“4 via a penalty shootout in a closely contested quarter-final clash of the Cavelossim Panchayat Cup 2026, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim and played at the Fr. Druston and Wellington Ground, Cavelossim.

The match began at a lively pace, with Curtorim Gymkhana striking early. In the 3rd minute, they earned a corner taken by Frazer Fernandes, which led to a goalmouth scramble. A weak clearance by goalkeeper Placio Hilarrio fell kindly to Anselm Fds, who finished from close range to give Curtorim a 1“0 lead.

Mandopa SC responded strongly, taking control for long stretches and creating multiple chances. However, efforts from Vellington Almeida and Travis Souza were repeatedly denied by the Curtorim goalkeeper Placio. After the change of ends, Mandopa continued to dominate possession, with Travis Souza missing a clear opportunity from close range before Ronaldo’s attempt was also saved by substitute goalkeeper Prakash Joshi.

Curtorim held firm until injury time, when Mandopa finally found the equaliser. Selwyn Gomes produced a powerful strike to level the score at 1“1 and force the match into penalties.

In the shootout, Mandopa converted through Aden, Ronaldo, Richard, Sam, and Nash. For Curtorim, James, Elton, and Savio scored, but Floyd Antao missed his attempt, shooting wide and handing Mandopa the victory.

Curtorim’s Elton Mascarenhas was named Man of the Match for his impressive performance. The award was presented by Chief Guest Fr. Ubaldo Fernandes, Parish Priest of Cavelossim Church.
