Morjim Veterans got the better of Varca Veterans 2-1 and moved into the quarterfinal of the 9th Navelim Inter Village Veterans Cup organised by Navelim Veterans at Rosary Ground Navelim on Tuesday. Soccoro Pereira of Varca Veterans was in thick action with his dribbling and assists while Morjim Veterans' Ashok Satardekar was in his element as he harassed the rival defence with sporadic raids. Rajendra Govekar of Morjim should have netted in the very second minute itself but his power-packed shot was blocked by Varca defender Yuri Ferrao. It was Charles Rodrigues of Varca who netted the first goal of the match with a well-placed shot assisted by Soccoro Pereira in the 25th minute. Morjim changed the game plan in the second half by giving Vincent Fernandes an extra task to control the midfield as well as the frontline and the plan worked with Vincent netting two quick goals in the 46th and 50th minutes respectively.
Bab Bakery Benaulim march into quarters
MARGAO: Bab Bakery Benaulim beat Assolda Boys 3-1 and moved into the quarterfinal of the 16th Rebello Pandal football tournament organised by Rebello Pandal at St Rita Church ground Maina on Monday. Prajot of Bab Bakery Benaulim was the toast of his team as he struck twice in the 6th, 8th and 10th minute respectively while Assolda Boys' Paku scored a consolation goal in the 49th minute.
