National Sports Day 2025 celebrated with enthusiasm across Goa

The Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs (DSYA), Goa, celebrated National Sports Day 2025 with great enthusiasm, organising a series of events and competitions aimed at promoting physical activity, healthy living, and sportsmanship among school students and staff from government departments and autonomous bodies.

The celebrations were held from August 20 to August 31, with a wide range of interactive and inclusive activities conducted across various venues.

Activities for School Students

Yoga Challenge: Held at Kala Academy, Panaji, the challenge saw 120 students from 24 schools showcase balance, flexibility, and mindfulness. The event was aimed at encouraging yoga as a regular practice for holistic well-being.

Sports Quiz: A sports-themed quiz tested students' knowledge of sporting events, legends, and trivia. 40 students from 16 higher secondary schools participated, fostering awareness and healthy competition.

Fitness Walk: A 2-km walk involving 240 students from high schools and higher secondary schools emphasized the importance of daily physical activity and healthy routines.

Street Play on Healthy Living & Sports

Students from S.S. Angle Higher Secondary School, Canacona, performed a street play on balanced lifestyles, nutrition, and exercise, blending entertainment with education.

Activities for Department Staff

Badminton Tournament: With participation from 80 staff members of DSYA, SAG, Khelo India, Personnel Department, and North Goa Zilla Panchayat, the tournament promoted camaraderie and teamwork.

Carrom Tournament for Women: Designed exclusively for female staff, 45 participants from DSYA, SAG, Khelo India, and GFDC took part, celebrating inclusivity and community engagement.

Football League: Teams from DSYA, SAG, and GFDC competed in a spirited league format, involving 60 staff members, focusing on strategic play and physical endurance.

Cycle Rally “ "Sunday on Cycle": Held at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, the rally drew 180 cyclists, promoting eco-friendly practices and an active lifestyle.

The success of the events was overseen by Secretary (Sports) Santosh Sukhadeve, IAS, and Director of Sports & Youth Affairs Dr. Ajay R Gaude, who took a keen interest in planning and implementation. Anant Sawal, State Sports Organiser, served as the event coordinator, with full support from his team and DSYA officials, ensuring smooth execution across all activities.
