Neha Tanwar confident of competitive Goa campaign in Senior Women’s One Day Trophy

Appointed as the head coach of the Goa senior women’s team in August 2025, Tanwar brings with her valuable international and domestic experience. Since taking charge, she has been encouraged by the attitude and potential within the squad.

“There is strong intent and eagerness to learn among the players. The squad is disciplined, receptive and keen to improve. I see a good mix of experience and youth, and most importantly, raw potential that can be shaped with the right structure and clarity of roles,” Tanwar said.

Preparation for the upcoming One Day and T20 tournaments has been process-driven and structured, with emphasis on both physical and mental readiness. The coaching staff has focused on skill enhancement, fitness, match simulations and scenario-based training, while also working on team combinations and role clarity.

“Confidence comes from preparation. We are ensuring the players are ready to handle pressure situations through game-specific training and mental conditioning,” she added.

Tanwar believes that while Goa’s players are technically sound, the next step lies in improving match awareness, consistency and decision-making under pressure to compete more effectively at the national level.

“Translating skills into match-winning performances requires temperament, tactical understanding and exposure to high-intensity cricket. These are areas we are consciously working on,” she said.

Looking ahead, Tanwar’s short-term vision is clear ” to build a fearless and competitive unit capable of challenging stronger teams.

“Our goal is to improve performances across formats and develop a winning mindset. Identifying players who can consistently perform and form the core of the team for the future is equally important,” she explained.

She also underlined the growing importance of fitness, discipline and mental strength in modern women’s cricket.

“At the senior level, these aspects are non-negotiable. Fitness and mental strength often decide close matches. Talent alone is not enough anymore; professionalism and match awareness define successful teams.”

Tanwar has observed positive growth in women’s cricket in Goa, particularly in participation, infrastructure and support systems.

“There has been noticeable growth in the number of girls taking cricket seriously. Increased awareness about fitness, regular competitions and structured pathways have helped identify talent early, which is very encouraging for the future,” she noted.

Drawing from her international playing career, Tanwar emphasizes process, preparation and mindset in her coaching philosophy.

“I focus a lot on match preparation, handling pressure, recovery and mental resilience ” areas I learned the most during my playing days.”

Several young players have caught the coach’s eye during the preparatory phase.

“Players like Usma, Harshita, Angel, Pooja, Atthashri and Vidhi have shown great attitude, work ethic and hunger to improve. With the right guidance and exposure, they can become strong assets for Goa cricket,” she said.

Tanwar also credited the Goa Cricket Association for its continued support towards women’s cricket.

“Improved facilities, structured tournaments and consistent backing have played a major role in player development. Such support motivates players to aim higher.”

The recent India women’s World Cup victory has further boosted morale among Goa’s players.

“You can see the excitement and belief during training sessions. It has reinforced the idea that dreams are achievable, regardless of where you come from,” she remarked.

Concluding with a message to aspiring cricketers, Tanwar said, “Believe in yourself and trust the process. Be disciplined, work hard every day and never fear failure. Goa has talent, and with the right mindset, there is no limit to what you can achieve.”
