The staff of Nehru Stadium, Fatorda was denied entry to the stadium on Tuesday. The staff turned up for duty in the morning but the security personnel did not allow them entry to the venue which is hosting the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup.
The staff assembled at the swimming pool in the complex. Sources said the staff were told not to come for duty and stay at home during the matches. When contacted, Stadium Manager Dinesh Naik said that he was working out a way to either issue the staff match passes when they were on duty.
However, nothing materialised till late in the evening and he sat down with the staff to explain to them rules of the FIFA. Ironically, the matches at the venue were played in a near-empty stadium.
