Portais SC trounce Nauxim SC 6-0

Portais Sports Club trounced Nauxim SC 6-0 in the Goa Football Association Second Division League at Taleigao ground on Tuesday. After the initial midfield battle, Portais broke the deadlock in the 18th minute through Flasten Martins. Nauxim were totally outplayed in the game as they were without the bench strength. Diptesh Kundaikar added two goals in quick succession to give Portais a 3-0 lead at the break. In the second half, Portais continued their dominance and netted their fourth through Flasten Martins. Max Vincent and Manthan Karmalkar added two more goals to make it 6-0.

Compassion FC rout Sirvodem Sports Club 10-1

Compassion FC began their GFA Girls Under-14 Football League (South Goa) campaign on a convincing note defeating Sirvodem Sports Club 10-1 at the Rosary Ground, Navelim. Pearl Fernandes of Compassion FC stole the show as she found the back of the net 8 times. Two of the goals were scored through free kicks. Moncy Vaz and Gretchen Velanka Vaz also added their names to the tally. Meanwhile, Shalaika Rodrigues scored a consolation goal for the Sirvodem team just after halftime.


SC Davorlim edge past CAC Cansaulim 3-2

SC Davorlim got the better of CAC Cansaulim 3-2 and moved into the quarterfinals of the Fr Bruno Leitao Memorial Cup organised by Union of Chinchinim Villagers at Our Lady of Hope Church ground, Chinchinim, on Tuesday. SC Davorlim opened the scoreline through Royal Figueredo in the eighth minute. Eight minutes later, Cansaulim equalised through Elvino Fernandes, who then doubled their lead in the 24th minute and made it 2-1. SC Davorlim found a quick equaliser through Agnelo D'Souza in the 26th minute to make it 2-2. SC Davorlim sealed their win in the 46th minute through Milton Colaco. Elvino Fernandes of CAC Cansaulim was awarded the man of the match award.


Ex-Central Railways winger laid to rest

Former Mafatlal and Central Railways winger Abito Pires who passed away at his residence in Fatrade-Varca last Thursday was laid to rest at Varca cemetery on Tuesday. He was a highly skilled player during his prime days. "Very sad to hear that Abito passed away. He was a very helpful human being, may his soul rest in peace," said Alberto Colaco, former General Secretary of All India Football Federation. "His death is an irreparable loss to the sports world,” said Francisco Fernandes who played along with Pires and coached Central Railways, in his condolence message. Goa Football Association Senior Vice President Antonio Pango and former footballers attended the funeral.
