MARGAO
Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) has asked Goan sports associations, which are yet to implement the National Development Sports Code 2011 to submit documents to prove that they have implemented the Sports Code 2011.
SAG in its recent letter to the sports associations have said: “In continuation to our letter and the subject cited above, this office had informed your association to submit the documents required with respect to the implementation of the National Development Sports Code 2011. It is pertinent to note that till date your association has not submitted the required documents asked for.”
In March 2023, Sports Minister Govind Gaude while speaking to media persons after the SAG General Body Meeting had directed all the sports associations from the state to elect their governing body as per Sports Code 2011 by January 1,2024.
Inquiries reveal that only a few sports associations have followed the directive while a number of associations have failed to toe the line.
One of the Sports Code rules clearly states that a member cannot hold the post of General Secretary or Treasurer for more than two consecutive terms, but that rule has not been followed by some sports associations in Goa, including the Goa Olympic Association.
