MARGAO: Sporting Club of Davorlim advanced to the semi-finals after securing a dramatic 4-3 victory in a penalty shootout against United Club of Verna in the 49th Chandor Seamen Trophy Football tournament held at Chandor on Monday.
Davorlim’s breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when a rebound off the Verna keeper fell to Reeve D'Costa, who swiftly placed the ball into the net, giving Sporting Club of Davorlim a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Upon resuming, Verna's youthful squad emerged with renewed energy and leveled the score in the 49th minute. A well-placed cross from the flanks was met with a powerful header from Clive Fernandes, catching the Davorlim goalkeeper off guard.
Davorlim’s Reeve D'Costa had a chance to restore the lead in the 53rd minute but narrowly missed a pass from the midfield.
With the match ending 1-1, the game proceeded to a penalty shootout. Selwyn Miranda, Milton Colaco, and Agnelo Colaco scored for Sporting Club of Davorlim while Lenon Pereira and Fulgencio Cardozo converted penalties for United Club of Verna.
Francisco Colaco of Sporting Club of Davorlim was named Man of the Match.
