SC Davorlim in Super Soccer quarters

Sporting Club Davorlm edged past UBD Colva 5-3 in the tiebreaker to enter the quarterfinals of the 32nd Super Soccer tournament organised by United Boys of Dando Colva in memory of late Joao Francis Fernandes at Dando ground, Benaulim on Saturday.

Davorlm exerted pressure on Colva defence and surged ahead in the 17th minute when striker Agnelo Colaco made the best of an error by Colva keeper Valeriano D’sa to knock the ball into the nets from a yard out.

After the breather, Colva midfielder Joseph Pereira and Fanslam Correa worked hard and restored parity in the 47th minute. Joseph curled in a free kick which was headed in by defender Beaven Goes.

In the tiebreaker, Davorlim scored through Milton Colaco, William Niasso, Jordan Miranda and Joaquim Figueiredo, while Beaven, Fanslam and Samson scored for Colva. 

Navelim Sporting down Raia Sporting 3-1  
Navelim Sporting came from behind to defeat Raia Sporting Club to enter the semifinals of 33rd All Goa St Anne’s Inter-Village Soccer 2023 held in memory of late Maria Anatansia Fernandes at Animal Husbandry ground, Curti Ponda on Monday.

Navelim Sporting shocked Raia Sporting Club 3-1. At half time, Raia was leading by a solitary goal scored by Garrison Fernandes. In the second half Navelim managed to control the game and scored through Rovan Fernandes, Prestly Gomes and Sadroy Costa. In the first half, Raia controlled the game and could have scored as many as four goals but their forwards could not beat the keeper on three occasions.

In the 13th minute, Sweehan Fernandes released a through ball to Garrison Fernandes, who took the ball inside the box and beat the onrushing keeper to make it 1-0 in favour of Raia. In the second half, Navelim equalized in the 55th minute through a header from Rovan Perreira. They took the lead in the next minute as Presley Gomes’ shot hit the crossbar and entered the net. In the 65th minute, Sadroy Costa headered the ball from a free kick to put the match beyond Raia’s reach.

Now, Navelim await the winners of the match between Sinquerim SC and Ponda Footballers. Durgadas Naik gave away the man-of-the-match award to Rovan Perreira.

St Xavier’s, Perpetual Succour move ahead 
St Xavier’s HS Velim, Perpetual Succour Convent HS Navelim, Loyola HS of Margao and Manovikas EHS moved into the quarterfinals of the  U-14 Subroto Mukherjee inter-school Salcete Taluka football tournament played at DSYA ground, Dramapur on Monday.

In the first match, St Xavier’s HS of Velim defeated Bethany Convent HS of Sao Jose de Areal 5-4 in a tie-breaker after the match ended in 1-1 draw. Shawn Fernandes scored for St Xavier’s, while Sweldon Viegas netted for Bethany Convent.

Perpetual Succour Convent HS of Navelim defeated Fr Agnel Multipurpose HS of Verna 3-0. Emmanuel Gama scored a brace, while Kican Rebello scored one goal.

Loyola HS of Margao thrashed Infant Jesus HS of Colva 5-0 to move ahead in the tournament. Andreas Furtado netted a hat-trick, while there was a goal each from Reuban Barbosa and Joseph D’Costa.

Manovikas EHS also moved ahead with 3-0 win over Vidhya Vikas Academy. Druv Pai scored a brace, while Sunchit Kamble netted one goal.

Love win Goan Priests Trophy
Love team defeated Piety team 4-2 via the tiebreaker to lift the Goan Priests Trophy in the tournament organised by Fr Franky and Goan priests at Bulls Arena, Verna on Sunday.

Movin of Love team opened the scoreline in the tenth minute but the joy was short-lived as Sniter equalised for Team Piety in the 15th minute. In the tiebreaker, Love team proved to be better shooters. Fr Edwin of Don Bosco, Quepem was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of other dignitaries.
