Shiroda Youth Club advanced to the semifinals of the Assumpta Cup 2026 with a narrow but determined 1-0 victory over Curtorim Gymkhana at the Sarzora Football Ground on Wednesday.
The contest started cautiously, with both sides maintaining discipline in midfield and limiting clear scoring opportunities. A few half-chances came and went, but neither team could break the deadlock, heading into halftime at 0-0.
After the restart, Shiroda Youth Club raised their intensity and were rewarded when Jonathan D’Costa found the breakthrough with a powerful strike that left the goalkeeper with no chance.
Curtorim Gymkhana responded with urgency, pressing forward in search of an equaliser. However, Shiroda’s defence remained resolute, keeping their opponents at bay and preserving the slender lead till the final whistle.
Jovel Martins was named Man of the Match for his standout performance. The award was presented by social worker Elaina Fernandes of Sarzora.
