Goa's Anura Prabhu Desai, who is the brand ambassador of Geno Pharmaceuticals, won a bronze medal in women's doubles, partnering Riya Mookerjee of West Bengal, at the All India Senior Ranking badminton tournament which concluded at Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
In the quarterfinals, Anura and Riya beat Harika V and Nila V 16-21, 21-11, 21-9. In the semifinals, they lost to Aparna Balan and Gowrikrishna TR 9-21, 8-21 to settle for a bronze.
AIFF conducts Coach Educator pathway project
Savio Madeira, AIFF head of coach education , Pradhyum Reddy, CEO of Dempo SC, Mariano Dias, former assistant coach of India, Anju Turambekar, former technical director of Dempo SC were the among those who attended the course of FIFA Coach Educator pathway project that was conducted at Dempo Ella Sports Academy.
The AIFF earlier announced that it has been selected by the FIFA Technical Development Division after a survey for the Coach Educator Development Pathway Project, India 2022, a coach education programme for its member associations. Former players Brahmanand Shankhwalker and Bruno Coutinho were the chief guests on the opening of the course. Mohamed Basir Bin V Ellaya Kutty, Senior Manager, FIFA Coaching Development Department and Bassem Ali Mohamad from FIFA were the assessors for the course.
The project comprised of activities like e-learning, online and on-site modules, as well as individual mentoring, which provides the coach educators with further growth opportunities. The project is about developing coach educators a 'C' Diploma and it will be upgraded in the future. Twenty-five coach educators with 'C' Diploma registered for the course.
Fide rapid chess: Top seed Niraj makes good start
Top seed CM Niraj Saripalli (2069) of Salcete registered his third straight win by beating Saish Fondekar at the All India Open Rapid Fide Rating Chess Tournament 2022. Niraj is in the lead with 19 others who have won the first three matches.
Sharsha Backer (2002) of Kerala beat Edrick Vaz on the second board in the black side whilst Marthandan (1867) got the better of Sudhakar Patgar. Among the leaders are Anirudh Bhat, Chander Raju, Aryan Raiker, Mandar Lad, Brendon Peroz, Sairaj Vernekar, Atharva Katkar, Sairudra Nagvenkar, Jake Shanty, Vraj Porob, Sandeep Santosh, all with 3 points. The tournament is organised by Rotary Club of Margao in association with BPS Sports Club and Salcete Taluka Chess Association.
Volleyball camp concludes at Margao
A volleyball coaching camp at the Holy Spirit Church, Margao concluded on Saturday. The 15-day Diwali vacation camp was organised by Holy Spirit Boys. Alison Morenas, chief coordinator, gave towel and refreshment to all the campers. SAG coach Erissa Faleiro was the coach and guided on the finer points of volleyball.
Morenas thanked Fr AmandaValadares, parish priest of Holy Spirit Church for allotting the ground for free. Fr Baretto, assistant parish priest, distributed the certificates. He also thanked Byran Fernandes, Christopher Pereira and Domingos Rodrigues for lending a helping hand in organising the camp. Twenty-seven participants, both boys and girls, attended the camp conducted under the overall supervision of Morenas.
