Silver Sand Sports Club registered a narrow 3-2 win over Verem United in the GFA Third Division League at Nerul ground, on Sunday.
Silver Sand had total control of the game right from the first whistle, and they took the lead in the 9th minute through Rushil Velingkar. Mark Mascarenhas then doubled the lead at the half hour mark. The winners led 2-0 at the break. In the second half, Amit Naik pulled a goal back for Verem to give some hope of a comeback, but Frezer Fernandes regained Silver Sand SC’s two-goal cushion with a goal in the next minute. Verem United pulled another goal back through Amit, just before the final whistle to make it 2-3.
At DSYA ground Tuem, Bhumika S & CA and Badem United played out a thrilling 2-2 draw.
Bablo Harmalkar put Bhumika ahead in the 22nd minute. However, Fraston Martins made it all square in the 24th minute for Badem. The scores were tied 1-1 at the break. In the second half, Bhumika regained their lead through Prasad Sawant in the 61st minute. But Fraston came to his team’s rescue once again in the dying minutes of the game to make it 2-2.
At Duler Stadium, Mapusa, Holiday Sports Club won seven-goal thriller with 4-3 win over Peddem Bomm Sports Club.
Holiday scored the first three goals through R D’souza, Gauresh Mandrekar and Sneden Fernandes as they led 3-0 at the break. Crossing over, Holiday Sports club added their fourth through Bhavesh Gawas. In the final quarter of the game, Peddem netted three through Kreepal Dhargalkar, Umesh Mainkar and Allan D’Souza.
