Goa's Sports Minister Govind Gaude clarified the funding process following the complaints and allegations from associations like badminton and taekwondo about a lack of government support and funding.
Minister Gaude explained that financial assistance is provided only to recognized sports associations. He highlighted the importance of accountability, stating that associations must submit proper utilization certificates for any funds received during the National Games. "Until we receive these certificates, we will not release any further funds," he said. "This money comes from taxpayers, and it is our duty to ensure it is used correctly."
Gaude noted that the Sports Authority of Goa allocates grants according to established guidelines, rather than based on unverified claims. He highlighted the support already given to badminton, mentioning that around 5,000 athletes have participated in ranking tournaments, and the government has provided substantial backing.
"If anyone disputes this support, I encourage them to come forward and discuss it with me directly," Gaude added. His comments reflect a commitment to transparency and accountability in the distribution of funds to sports associations in Goa.
