Spring Boys Mandopa emerged victorious in the 4th All Goa inter-village open football tournament organised by Davorlim Sports and Cultural Club at Davorlim Club ground, Laymati. They clinched the title by defeating Curtorim Boys 3-2 in a thrilling final held on Sunday.
The final was a riveting contest that kept the Sunday crowd on their toes. Curtorim Boys took an early lead in the 10th minute through Milagres Fernandes, but Mandopa's Costa equalised in the 24th minute with a powerful header from a corner kick. The halftime score was 1-1.
Despite a change in game plan by Curtorim's coach, Rosario Hilario, Mandopa took control in the second half, scoring two quick goals in the 43rd and 47th minutes through Mallappa and Prestly, respectively. Curtorim managed to pull one goal back in the dying minutes through Joy, but it wasn't enough to alter the outcome.
Spring Boys Mandopa claimed the championship trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 40,000, while Curtorim Boys settled for the runner-up position with a prize of Rs 30,000.
The awards ceremony was graced by Anthony Colaco (MPT), a prominent social worker, as the chief guest. He presented the prizes in the presence of several dignitaries, including Peter Gonsalves, Fr Domigos Noronha, Francisco Nicolau, Adv Prasad, PSI Stanley Gomes, and Caitan Costa. Filomena Costa presided over the function as the host.
