St Anthony SC Marna Siolim enter finals

MARGAO

St Anthony SC Marna Siolim secured their spot in the final by defeating United Club of Verna with a commanding 2-0 victory in the 26th Holy Cross inter-village football tournament held at Vodlemoll Kakoda.

The match unfolded as a spectacle of attacking football, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats from start to finish.

From the onset, both Siolim and Verna displayed an aggressive style of play, opting for long shots in their quest to take the lead. Marna's relentless efforts included some impressive strikes from long distance, challenging the Verna goalkeeper who managed to deflect their attempts. Verna, however, came close to breaking the deadlock when Cyrus Noronha found the back of the net, only to be ruled off-side, leaving the score tied at 0-0 at halftime.

The second half witnessed even more drama as both teams intensified their attacking maneuvers, relentlessly pressuring their opponents' defenses. Despite Marna's continued barrage of long-range shots, they were repeatedly thwarted by the resilient UC Verna goalkeeper, keeping the scoreline level. The intensity of the game had the spectators in awe, as they witnessed a display of skill and determination from both sides.

The breakthrough for Siolim finally came with a well-placed shot from Dalesh Pednekar, sending the crowd into a frenzy of cheers. Buoyed by their first goal, Siolim continued to press forward, and their efforts were rewarded once again, this time with Mayuresh Naik finding the net with a precise strike from the lower corner.

Despite Verna's valiant efforts to stage a comeback in the dying minutes of the match, Siolim's defense held firm, securing their passage to the final of the prestigious tournament. For Verna, it was a disappointing end to their campaign, as they bowed out of the semi-finals with a 2-0 defeat.
