A total of 58 endurance cyclists successfully completed Tri Goa’s first official 200km Brevets Randonneur Mondiaux (BRM) ride of the 2020-21 endurance cycling season on Sunday, November 22. Adlin Mascarenhas of Camorlim in South Goa was the lone woman cyclist to complete the challenging 200km ride within the stipulated 13 hours and 30 minutes.
Adlin (40), a homemaker and mother of two said, “This is my third 200km cycle ride. I intend completing the 300km, 400km and 600km rides to get the ‘Super Randonneur’ title. When grandmothers across India are riding BRM cycle rides, what is holding us Goan women behind?”
The event also witnessed 10 cyclists, including three women, successfully complete the Tri Goa 100kms Brevet Populaire ride which was held concurrently with the 200km ride. The three successful women cyclists are Rebecca George, Megan Fernandes and Micha Fernandes.
In a press release issued on Monday, Rajesh Malhotra, founder of Tri Goa “ an affiliate club of Audax India Randonneurs (AIR) and Audax Club Parisien (ACP), said, “We are very happy to see that four women cyclists completed their respective rides. This should hopefully motivate more women cyclists to participate in Tri Goa’s upcoming events.”
The 200km ride was called ‘Tri Goa Coastline BRM’ and took the cyclists from Panaji across South Goa’s famous coastline of Majorda, Colva, Benaulim, Cola, Agonda and Pollem and back via Margao, Borim and Old Goa. All successful 200km cyclists will receive a special medal and certificate from Audax Club Parisien (ACP) in France.
