United Club of Ambaulim secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over Fr. Agnelo Paroda via a tiebreaker to advance to the semifinals of the 17th St. Anthony Festival Cup 2025, in a gripping quarterfinal clash held at Moll Ground, Assolda on Tuesday. Earlier in the tournament, Ambaulim had edged out Parish Youth Nuvem 2-1 to reach the last eight.
Early chances came for both sides, with Rohan Gauncar of Fr. Agnelo Paroda and Crimson Fernandes of Ambaulim missing close opportunities in the 4th and 6th minutes, respectively.
The breakthrough arrived in the 48th minute when Jesvan Fernandes rose above the defense to nod home a powerful downward header, giving Ambaulim the lead. However, Fr. Agnelo Paroda hit back almost instantly, as Joy Fernandes produced a moment of brilliance with a curling equaliser just three minutes later.
With the scores level at 1-1 after full time, the match went to penalties. United Club of Ambaulim held their composure to clinch the shootout 4-3 and seal their place in the semifinals.
Ivon Fernandes was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance and received the award from Advocate John Fernandes, Secretary of United Boys of Ambaulim.
