UC Seraulim prevailed over CAC, Cansaulim 5-2 in the penalty shootout to move into the semifinals of the Guirdolim Panchayat Cup, organised by Guirdolim Club at Chandor Church complex ground on Monday.
UC Seraulim found themselves in the lead in the very first minute when a defence-splitting pass by Ronaldo Coelho was collected by Mohsin Sayed, who coolly placed the ball to the left of an onrushing Cansaulim keeper. Stung by the early setback, the Cansaulim boys regrouped and started putting pressure on the Seraulim defence but Seraulim held their ground.
Changing over, Cansaulim committed more men forward and got the equaliser when Elvino Fernandes scored from the penalty spot. A counter-attack in the 60th minute saw Ronaldo Coelho dribble past a couple of Cansaulim players and lob the ball over the defence to Senato Fernandes, whose powerful shot gave no chance to the Cansaulim keeper.
In the last minute of the match, a snap-shot by Melwyn Gama from the top of the box beat the Seraulim keeper and the match ended 2-2 in regulation time. In the tiebreaker, Selvoy, Adriel and Senato scored for UC Seraulim while CAC could score none. Malcolm Fernandes of UC Seraulim received the Man of the Match prize from Andrew Ferrao, GFA Ex-Co member.
Akeeraj, Ryan join Goa Santosh Trophy squad
The Goa Football Association has named replacements for injured striker Stendly Fernandes and defender Liston Cardozo in the State squad for the Santosh Trophy’s final phase which begins in Bhubaneswar on February 10.
The GFA had included Stendly and Liston, who played in the qualifying round before suffering injuries. Striker Akeeraj Martins of Sporting Clube de Goa and defender Ryan Menezes of FC Goa will replace the duo. Goa open their Group A campaign against Kerala on February 10.
First Division: Guirdolim Club humble Varca SC
Guirdolim Club routed Varca Sports Club 5-0 in the GFA Second Division League at Don Bosco Oratory Ground, Fatorda on Monday.
Guirdolim Club dominated the game but their superiority didn't turn into goals. Crossing over, Guirdolim Club were dominant with their forwards making merry against the weak rival defence.
Ryan Fernandes broke the deadlock in the 46th minute before Presley Peixote doubled the lead in the 62nd minute when he converted a spot kick. Godfrey Mascarenhas struck twice in the 70th and 74th minutes to register a brace. Presley scored again in the 78th minute to make it 5-0.
Dynamic Royal win South Goa Premier League
Dynamic Royal won South Goa Premier League 2023 cricket tournament organised by GCC, Fatorda at SAG ground. Dynamic Royal beat KKG Knight Riders in the final as they easily chased down the 67-run target in seven overs to win the title for the 10-team tournament played in a league format.
Dynamic Royal lifted the trophy and pocketed a cash prize of Rs 5,05,555 while KKG Knight Riders had to be content with the runners-up trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2,50,555. Harshad Madondkar was named the Man of the final, the Emerging player prize was awarded to Kritesh Kinalkar, the Best batsman prize went to Munna Shaikh, Ankur Singh was named the Best bowler and Akshay Jogale was the Best fielder.
The man of the series, Munna Shaikh, won an Emoo electric bike for his consistent batting in the tournament.
