MARGAO: United Club of Verna secured a commanding 6-2 victory over Carmona Sports Club to advance to the quarterfinals of the 23rd Fr. Basilio Andrade Memorial tournament at Musson ground, Majorda, on Tuesday.
Carmona SC struck first, with Rolan Ferrao scoring in the very first minute due to a defensive lapse by United. However, United quickly equalized in the 13th minute with a goal from Aglon Abranches. Ferrao then put Carmona back in the lead in the 16th minute, but the advantage was short-lived as Royson Rego leveled the score for United. The first half ended in a 2-2 tie.
The second half saw United take control, with Eusabio Fernandes netting two goals in quick succession, scoring in the 34th and 36th minutes. Mecklito D’Costa also found the back of the net, and Lenoy Fernandes added another goal in the 40th and 56th minutes, solidifying United Club of Verna's dominance in the match.
