MARGAO: United Club Verna pipped Navelim Villagers Union 1-0 to enter the semifinals of All Goa Navelim Villagers Union trophy, organised by Navelim Villagers Union, at Rosary Church ground, Navelim, on Tuesday
It was Navelim villagers Union were first to missed the target in the fifth minute when Noah Luis' shot hit the post and went out of play. In the 24th minute, Elrich Fernandes of United Club Verna scored with running down and beat the defence and tap the ball over the goalkeeper of Navelim Mehboob Hussain in the net and remained 1-0 at the breather.
After resumption of the second half, Navelim's Ronaldo Pereira gave a through pass to Nash Pereira but he failed to capitalise on the chance. As match progressed, in the last quarter, United Club of Verna wasted a one to one opportunity on three occasions as Navelim's goalkeeper came up with some smart saves.
Navelim made two substitute in the form of Terrance Miranda and Lyndon Cardozo but couldn't find the equaliser till the final whistle.
