St Xavier’s College, Mapusa and PG Goa University notched up wins as Goa University’s annual Inter-Collegiate Men’s Cricket Championship got underway on Friday at Goa University cricket ground, Taleigao.
In the first match, St Xavier’s defeated Govt College, Borda, Margao by 10 wickets. Govt College scored 132/9 in 20 overs with Rajesh (40 off 28) and Junaid Sayyad (21 off 28) the top scorers for the Borda team. Saish Parab (4/22), Rishikesh Arondekar (3/29) and Saiesh Shtye (2/16) took the nine wickets to fall. In reply, St Xavier's overhauled the target in 11 overs, scoring 135 without loss. Abhishek Kudav slammed 80 off 40 while Laxman Shetye scored a 26-ball 36.
In the second match, PG Goa University prevailed over Govt College, Quepem in a Super Over finish. PG Goa University scored 156/7 in 20 overs. Alam Khan (58 off 34) and Shashank Verekar (51 off 43) were the top scorers while Vedant Madgaonkar (2/34) and Vaibhav Rathod (1/20) claimed the wickets. In reply, Govt College, Quepem also scored 156 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. Vedant Madgaonkar (28 off 27) and Deepak Patil (27 off 27) were the top scorers. Chandrashekar Gaonkar (3/16) and Aniket Singh (2/20) were amongst the wickets.
In the Super Over, Govt College, Quepem scored 10/1 (Yash Parsekar 7 off 3, Bhagesh 1 off 1; Abhishek 1/10. PG Goa University posted 11 to secure the win as Alam Khan scored a 4-ball 10.
