Vasco Veterans secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mitra Veterans on Sunday to advance to the semifinals of the 1st All Goa 8-a-side Veterans Football Tournament, hosted by Uk Goans Dynamic Group at Dando Ground, Benaulim.
The match saw Vasco dominate possession throughout, but they were unable to break the deadlock in the first half, which ended goalless. Mitra Veterans came out stronger in the second half, with Trevor’s goal in the 30th minute ruled offside, denying them the lead.
Vasco capitalised on a defensive error in the 40th minute when Ramesh Palekar fired a quick shot into the net, giving his side a vital 1-0 lead. Despite pressing hard for an equaliser, Mitra Veterans were unable to breach Vasco’s solid defence, led by Sheikh Niazi, ensuring a narrow but deserved victory for Vasco.
The semifinal of the tournament will be held on Monday, December 30 at 4.30 pm, featuring Quepem Veterans vs Calangute Veterans.
