MARGAO: Ambelim SC edged past a spirited St. Anthony’s FC Assolda 4–3 via tiebreaker to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Cavelossim Panchayat Cup 2026, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, at the Fr. Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim.
Despite taking the field with just nine players, St. Anthony’s FC Assolda put up a brave fight and managed to keep the scores level for most of the match.
With just 10 minutes remaining, Ambelim finally broke the deadlock when Aeron Pinto set up Maxwin Fernandes, whose shot found the back of the net to give his side a 1–0 lead.
However, Assolda showed great resilience and earned a penalty soon after, which Sheldon Fernandes calmly converted to level the score at 1–1 and push the match into a tiebreaker.
In the penalty shootout, Rayan, Joshua, Blasco and Ozen successfully converted for Ambelim SC, while Richard, Valentino and Flezer scored for Assolda. Drayan Fernandes and Sheldon Fernandes missed their attempts, handing Ambelim a 4–3 win.
Sheldon Fernandes of St. Anthony’s FC Assolda was named Man of the Match. The award was presented by Chief Guest Delfina Luis, Deputy Sarpanch of V.P. Cavelossim.
