MARGAO: Curtorim Gymkhana edged past Raia Sporting Club 3–2 to book their place in the quarter-finals of the All Goa Football Tournament in memory of late Manuel Baretto, Joao Pereira and Menino Fonseca, organised by Navelim Sporting Club at the Rosary Church ground, Navelim, on Friday.
Curtorim Gymkhana made a strong start and took the lead in the 15th minute through Melvin Fernandes. Just a minute later, Elton Mascarenhas doubled the advantage, putting Raia under early pressure. Melvin Fernandes struck again in the 19th minute to complete his brace and give Curtorim a commanding 3–0 lead at half-time.
In the second half, Raia Sporting Club came out with renewed intent and reduced the deficit with goals from Achilles Fernandes in the 39th minute and Myron Pereira in the 55th minute, making it 3–2 and setting up a tense finish.
Raia nearly found an equaliser in injury time when Patrick Souza’s long ball found Achilles Fernandes, who set up an unmarked Myron Pereira. However, Pereira’s header was ruled offside, allowing Curtorim Gymkhana to hold on for a narrow win.
Melvin Fernandes of Curtorim Gymkhana was adjudged Man of the Match. The award was presented by Remedios Rodrigues.
