International Master Audi Ameya delivered an impressive performance to secure a podium finish (sixth place) at the recently concluded Ekagra International Rapid Chess Tournament 2025, held in Hyderabad.
Starting the tournament as the 21st seed, Ameya outperformed expectations to finish sixth overall, ahead of several top-seeded Grandmasters and International Masters.
Ameya produced a standout victory over second seed GM Abhimanyu Puranik (2542) of Maharashtra and held eighth seed Russian GM Boris Savchenko (2489) to a draw.
His other notable wins included victories against IM Dushyant Sharma, FM Ramakrishna J, and FM Shaik Sumer Arsh of India.
Across the 9-round tournament, Ameya scored 7 wins and 1 draw, finishing with an impressive 7.5 points out of 9.
The tournament saw a three-way tie for first place at 8 points, with GM Iniyan Pa, GM Mitrabha Guha, and GM Harikrishna A. Ra finishing first, second, and third respectively on tie-breaks.
There was also a three-way tie for fourth place at 7.5 points, involving GM Deepan Chakravarthy J, GM Pranesh M, and IM Audi Ameya, who were placed fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively after tie-breaks.
The Ekagra International Rapid Chess Tournament witnessed participation from 281 players, including 40 titled players, representing seven different countries, making it a highly competitive international event.
