Betalbatim SC edged past Cuncolim Union with a 2–1 victory to storm into the quarterfinals of the 44th Gold Silver Football Tournament, held at Rosary Church Ground, Navelim, on Friday.
Betalbatim took the lead early in the match through Prosen Mondal, who scored with a fine placement shot in the 7th minute. Cuncolim Union had a chance to equalize soon after, but Daulat Dessai narrowly missed the target.
The lead was doubled in the 21st minute when Selroy Fernandes found the back of the net for Betalbatim SC.
Cuncolim Union pulled one back in the 46th minute through Jollyton Ferny, who made a tricky run past the Betalbatim defenders before finishing from close range to make it 2–1.
Despite Cuncolim’s late push, Betalbatim held on to secure the win and a spot in the last eight.
Prosen Mondal was named Man of the Match and was presented with the award by Constancio Paul Rodrigues.
