Political organisations of two serving Goa cabinet ministers -- Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and Revenue Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate -- were on Friday de-registered by the Election Commission of India (ECI)
Rane's Sattari Yuva Morcha and Monserrate's United Goans Party (UGP) were among four Goan political outfits de-registered by the ECI. The other two Goan political outfits de-registered are Goa Su-raj Party (GSRP) and former minister Francisco (Mickky) Pacheco's Goa Vikas Party (GVP).
The ECI also simultaneously delisted 470 more registered unrecognised political parties (RUPPs) from across the country.
These political parties were delisted by ECI after giving them an opportunity to be heard and put forth their say in the matter.
In the first phase of the exercise, held on August 9, the ECI had delisted 334 such registered but unrecognised parties in the country.
Meanwhile Goa's chief electoral officer Sanjay Goel, IAS, held a meeting with political parties to discuss the issue of revision of electoral rolls and also appointment of BLOs.
Revision of electoral rolls has been hogging headlines nationally after Congress' Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s alleged manipulation of the rolls at the behest of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
Representatives of the BJP, Congress, MGP, GFP, and RGP attended the meeting.
