Verna police have solved a burglary case within 24 hours, arresting a 35-year-old man and recovering stolen gold ornaments valued at Rs 1.3 lakh.
The accused, identified as Prashanta Sonar, a resident of Pajentar in Cortalim and a native of Assam, was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the theft.
The case was registered after a complaint by Gagan Barik, a resident of Cortalim and a native of Odisha, who reported that between September 8 and 16, a burglar had entered his house by breaking open the back window of the kitchen and had stolen a gold chain with a locket and a pair of earrings kept inside a cupboard locker.
Following the complaint, Verna police registered an offence under Sections 331(3), 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, against an unknown accused.
Acting swiftly, a team led by PI Anand Shirodkar tracked down and arrested Sonar, recovering the stolen property in full. The investigation is being carried out by PSI Pramila Fernandes, under the supervision of PI Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
