Gladson Braganza’s decisive strike sent hosts Betalbatim Sporting Club into the finals of the 8th Martin’s Cup Football Tournament, as they edged past St. Rock Youth Club, Calata 1–0 in the semifinal at the Panchayat Ground, Betalbatim on Tuesday.
The clash between the neighbouring villages was a battle of pride. St. Rock created early chances through Beevan D’Mello and Oscar Braganza, while Ashley Fernandes and Alison Rogtao threatened for Betalbatim, but the first half ended 0–0 with strong defending from both sides.
Betalbatim came out stronger in the second half, and in the 45th minute, Klusner Pereira’s long pass was intercepted and controlled by Gladson Braganza, who slotted it past the defender and goalkeeper. Despite St. Rock’s efforts to equalise, Betalbatim held firm to seal a hard-fought victory and secure a spot in the finals.
Klusner Pereira, who dominated the midfield throughout the match, was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by Betalbatim president Melvin Cota.
