Chandor Club booked their place in the semi-finals of the 50th Chandor Seamen Football Tournament, defeating Cuncolim Union 6-5 via a penalty shootout in a thrilling quarter-final clash at the Chandor Church Complex ground. The tournament is being organised by Chandor Club.
The match drew a large crowd, with hundreds of spectators witnessing an intense encounter. Cuncolim Union dominated much of the first half, pressing high and keeping the ball largely in Chandor’s half. However, both sides failed to break the deadlock, and the teams went into the break locked at 0-0.
Chandor came out stronger after the interval and struck first through Moises D’Sa, who latched onto a well-placed pass from Mario, dribbled past the Cuncolim defence, and fired the ball into the net.
But the lead was short-lived. In the 51st minute, Wilson Fernandes punished a defensive lapse by Chandor, slotting the ball into the left corner to level the score at 1-1.
Both teams continued to push for a winner in a fast-paced second half, but the deadlock persisted until full time, sending the game into a penalty shootout.
In the shootout, Moises D’Sa, Akram Yadwad, Ashwell Peixoto, Rivaldo Cardozo, and Mahesh Gaonkar converted for Chandor, while Wilson Fernandes, Viraj Velip, Shanker Gaunkar, and Frazer Fernandes scored for Cuncolim Union.
Moises D’Sa was named Hero of the Match for his goal and penalty conversion. The award was presented by former Chandor Club player McLoyd Fernandes.
