Goa endured a crushing defeat by an innings and 195 runs at the hands of Baroda in their Elite Group D match of the Vijay Merchant Trophy on Sunday. The Under-16 three-day encounter was played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. Resuming on Sunday at 51 for 3, Goa's second innings folded for just 83 runs in 42.1 overs. Adeep Miskin top-scored for Goa with 24. Earlier, Baroda had declared their first innings at 399 for 8. In reply, Goa were bowled out for 121 in 42.1 overs in their first innings. As in the first innings, Goa’s batting collapsed once again in the second innings. For Baroda, Jainam Patel claimed four wickets, Yuvraj Sinh picked up three, Krush Dabhi took two, while Om Patel chipped in with one wicket. This was Goa's second consecutive defeat in the tournament. They had earlier lost their opening match to Uttarakhand by 10 wickets. Goa will next face Andhra Pradesh.

Canacona SCC in quarterfinals
MARGAO: Canacona Sports and Cultural Club stormed into the quarter-finals of the UCT Trophy inter-village football tournament with a convincing 4-1 victory over Carmona Sports Club in a match organised by the United Club of Telaulim at the Government Primary School grounds, Canacona. Canacona SC took early control of the contest, with Chaitan Komparant scoring twice in quick succession in the 10th and 20th minutes to put his side firmly in command. Carmona SC pulled one back in the 26th minute through Alivio Carvalho, but Canacona continued to dominate proceedings. Ronaldo Oliveira extended Canacona’s lead with the third goal in the 42nd minute, while Welwino Fernandes sealed the emphatic win with the fourth goal in the 49th minute. For his match-winning performance, Chaitan Komparant was adjudged Man of the Match, with the award presented by Joevin Costa.

PANAJI: The Goa Tennis Ball Cricket Association (GTBCA) has announced the Goa boys’ and girls’ teams for the 33rd Junior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship, scheduled to be held at Agra, Uttar Pradesh, from December 18 to 21. The boys’ team comprises Shaunak Naik, Saiesh Naik, Gourish Velip, Arnav Gaonkar, Rohit Lamani, Manikishor Singh, Vishal Jadhav, Mayur Narvekar, Faraan Shaikh, Usman Karol, Babi Dalvi, Yuvraj Malik, Sainath Naik and Mahadev Malik. The girls’ squad includes Sandhya Rai, Ayushi Shrivastav, Tanisha Velip, Niharika Kerkar, Tejal Gaude, Pratiksha Kerkar, Mahima Naik, Gayatri Palkar, Tanishka Gaude, Antara Naik, Tanaya Gaude, Tamanna Dhulapkar and Shanta Raikar.

PANAJI: CKB Martial Art Academy’s girls put up a dominant display at the Khelo India Kickboxing Championship held at the Mapusa Sports Complex, Peddem, with all 11 participants returning with medals to register a 100 per cent success rate. The contingent was guided by CKB founder Hussain Mulla, coaches Liby Mendonca and Imam Mulla, and academy secretary Mehrun Sheikh. Among the standout performers, Ahd Mulla led the medal tally with three gold and one silver medals, while Ainsley D’Souza claimed three gold medals. Afifa Mulla, Sejal Parsekar, Saanchi Chavan and Aarohy Kamble also delivered strong performances across their respective categories.
