Guardian Angel SC advanced to the next round of the 2nd Late Fernando Abranches Memorial Trophy 2026 after defeating Navelim SC 5–4 via a tie-breaker at the Verna Village Panchayat Ground on Tuesday. The tournament is organised by the United Club of Verna.
Both teams began the match at a high tempo in search of an early breakthrough, but solid defending and alert goalkeeping kept the scoreline blank in regulation time. Navelim’s Nash Pereira was denied by Guardian Angel goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues, while Regan Costa’s powerful effort was deflected out.
In the penalty shoot-out, Guardian Angel converted all five kicks through Frazer, Regan Costa, Godwin Fernandes, Sheldon and Daniel. For Navelim, Nash Pereira, Sweden Costa, Aden Pereira and Meliston Dias scored, but Rodrigues proved decisive by saving three penalties.
Sweden Costa of Guardian Angel SC was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by former Verna Sports Club president Edwin Rodrigues.
