Calangute Association and Geno FC played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw in the GFA Super League match at Poriat ground with both sides sharing the spoils after an intense contest that swung on key moments in each half.
Neither side settled into a rhythm early on, as the opening exchanges turned into a cagey midfield battle with both teams cautiously searching for openings. Calangute looked the more enterprising of the two, earning an early corner that forced a sharp save from Geno goalkeeper Crysler Afonso, and they continued to build pressure as the half progressed. Geno, however, remained disciplined at the back, maintaining their shape while Afonso stayed alert when called into action. The visitors did carve out a promising opportunity midway through the half, but midfielder Khoirom Singh produced a crucial intervention, throwing himself in the way to block a goal-bound effort.
The game’s complexion shifted dramatically five minutes before the break following a moment of poor judgment. Calangute goalkeeper Aditya Sharma rushed well outside his area and brought down Deeshank Kunkalikar, prompting the referee to award a penalty. Vasim Inamdar made no mistake from the spot, putting Geno ahead 1-0. Sharma responded positively soon after, pulling off an excellent save to prevent a second goal and keep Calangute within reach heading into half-time—a crucial reprieve, as a two-goal deficit would have made their task far more difficult.
Calangute came out after the interval with renewed intent, pressing higher up the pitch and moving the ball with greater purpose. Umesh Pujar was booked early in the second half as the contest grew more intense, but the defining moment arrived around the hour mark. Sheldon Pereira displayed composure under pressure to slip a precise pass through to Arun Naik, who controlled and finished confidently to level the score.
The closing stages were frenetic, with both sides pushing hard for a winner. Tempers flared as Geno’s Pratik Naik and Calangute’s Vishesh Nasnodkar were both shown yellow cards during a heated exchange, highlighting the stakes. Despite six minutes of added time and late drama, neither team could find the decisive goal, and the match ended with honours even.
