Wilred Sports Club, Curtorim defeated United Club Verna 1-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the 19th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup, organised by Guirdolim Club and played at the Chandor Church Sports Complex.
The match began on an even note, with both teams creating early chances. Wilred nearly took the lead in the 10th minute, but Milagres’s well-placed shot was brilliantly saved by the Verna goalkeeper. Verna too came close, only for Milton to shoot over the bar from close range. Solid defending at both ends ensured a goalless first half.
On resumption, Wilred emerged the stronger side, mounting constant pressure on the Verna goal. Midfielder Aliston was outstanding, dictating play and supplying precise passes to his forwards. The breakthrough came in the 41st minute when winger Nallister Silveira sent in a swift cross that Savio Peixoto tapped home to put Wilred ahead. Verna pushed hard for an equaliser, but the Curtorim defence held firm, sealing a 1-0 victory.
Aliston Fernandes of Wilred SC was adjudged Player of the Match and received the award from Glimson Fernandes, Sports Secretary of Guirdolim Club.
