In major shake-up within the Goa Police Department, the government ordered a wide-ranging reshuffle affecting officers at multiple levels, including Superintendents of Police (SPs), Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs), and Police Inspectors. The changes come close on the heels of a late-night law-and-order review meeting convened by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
On Thursday, the government relieved SP Rahul Gupta of the additional charge of North Goa. Konkan Railway SP Harishchandra Madkaikar has been appointed as the new SP North, while South Goa SP Tikam Singh Verma will now hold additional charge of Konkan Railway.
Gupta had been handling the North Goa portfolio for nearly seven months, after being posted there following the transfer of SP Akshat Kaushal in the aftermath of the Lairai Devi zatra stampede that also led to the shifting of North Collector Sneha Gitte and others over alleged administrative lapses.
Simultaneously, the Home Department issued separate orders transferring six DySPs and 34 Police Inspectors.
Among the DySPs, recently promoted officers Hiru Kavlekar, Sudesh Velip and Brutano Paxito—who were awaiting postings—have been assigned to Konkan Railway, North Headquarters and the Anti-Terrorism Squad respectively. DySP Nilesh Rane has been moved from Konkan Railway to take over as SDPO Canacona.
DySP Braz Menezes has been transferred from North Headquarters to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), while DySP Nutan Vernekar, currently posted at the FRRO, has been shifted to the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit with additional charge of the Women Police Station.
