Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Varca Panchayat Cup with a 2-1 win over Cuncolim Union at the Varca Ground on Sunday.
Wilred Leisure led 2-1 at half-time after recovering quickly from an early setback. Cuncolim Union struck first through Novian Belki in the sixth minute, but the lead lasted barely a minute as Anselm Fernandes equalised almost immediately. Fernandes doubled his tally in the 11th minute with a well-placed finish that left Cuncolim goalkeeper Sachin Prabhakar Velip with no chance.
Cuncolim Union pushed hard for a second-half equaliser, but Wilred Leisure goalkeeper Johnson Bogato stood firm to protect the lead. Anselm Fernandes was named Man of the Match for his decisive brace.

Father Agnel School win hockey title
MAPUSA: Father Agnel School, Pilar, clinched the Inter-School U-17 Boys Hockey Championship with a strong all-round performance at the Peddem Sports Complex. The tournament was organised by St Michael Sports and Cultural Association in collaboration with St Michael’s School and Goans Hockey. Father Agnel’s team displayed superior skill and coordination throughout the competition to secure the title.
