Goa began their Cooch Behar Trophy Elite (U-19) four-day encounter against Assam with a composed and disciplined batting display, reaching 218 for 4 on the opening day of the match at the Dr Bhausaheb Bandodkar Ground of Panaji Gymkhana, Campal, after being sent in to bat on Sunday.
Openers Aditya Kota (38) and Sarthak Bhike (32) provided a steady foundation with a 55-run stand before Mohit Thakur struck to remove Sarthak. One-drop batter Shantanu Nevagi continued the momentum, adding 38 with Aditya and later stitching a crucial 65-run partnership with skipper Yash Kasvankar. Shantanu fell for 49, while Kasvankar compiled a well-crafted 60 off 114 balls.
At stumps, Dishank Misquin (26*) and Aradhya Goyal (6*) held firm, ready to build on Goa’s strong start on Day 2. For Assam, Thakur claimed two wickets, while Amit Choudhary and Prithwiraj Kaishyap picked up one each.
Goa remain joint leaders of Elite Group D—alongside Bengal and Uttar Pradesh—with 7 points each, from their earlier bonus-point win.
