Stop dirty politics, focus on development: Sequeira to Lobo THE GOAN NETWORK

Calangute Deputy Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira on Saturday hit out at the local MLA Michael Lobo, asking him to stop indulging in cheap and dirty politics and to instead, concentrate on development of the coastal village.
Reacting to Lobo’s challenge to defeat him at the next panchayat elections, Sequeira said he has been getting elected in the Calangute panchayat continuously and has been at the helm of the Calangute panchayat for the last 29 years.
“I am hardly bothered about challenges from leaders who are taking baby steps in politics. The local MLA’s outburst reflects his uneasiness and frustration as the elections approach,” Sequeira said.
Sequeira chose to remind the local MLA that he (Sequeira) was instrumental to get him (Lobo) elected in the 2012 assembly polls.
“Within three months of his election, Lobo showed his true colours by fielding his own panel against me in the Calangute panchayat elections. He failed to get even one panch elected from his panel then,” Sequeira said.
“How can the MLA boast of defeating me when he couldn’t get even one panch elected from his panel in the 2012 panchayat elections,” he questioned.
The deputy sarpanch further said that the local MLA would meet his waterloo in the ensuing assembly elections.
“I shall ensure that this will be his first and the last term as the MLA of Calangute,” Sequeira said.
On Friday, Lobo had censured the deputy sarpanch for obstructing developmental works in the constituency and vowed to defeat him at the next panchayat polls.
