"All inquiries would be completed within six months"

The Goan: What is the level of inquiry held in each caseby anti-corruption bureau? Whether it is on documentary evidence only?

Mohan Lal: Normally the investigation is conducted onthe basics of done on documentary evidence, if investigating officer has someinformation and feels its required then a fresh inquiry can be conducted. 

TG: What do you think fourteen member team is sufficientto conduct inquiries in the pending 240 cases?

Mohan Lal: As I have recently taken charge, I’m in aprocess of assessing my staff on whether they are sufficient. If they cannothandle the cases then we can recruit more. Until then, why appoint extra staff?. 

TG: What is the term of references in each case handedover to ACB?

Mohan Lal: The complaint’s copy is term of referencein any case. We find out whether complaints are true or not. Whatever documentsare obtained in the process of investigation is verified.

TG: Your reactions to number of cases pending with anti-corruptionbureau?

Mohan Lal “ Hopefully all inquiries would becompleted within six months but this does not mean that there is no hard andfast rule that it will be completed. One thing is very clear if a person isguilty then he would be punished.

Seven high profile cases are with the government. Will it really act?

Seven high profile investigations into various allegations of government corruption were handed over to the ACB by this present government. It is now learnt that the bureau has filed interim reports and sent them back to the government awaiting further action.

SinceMarch 2012 when the current government took over, ACB has been handed over 28cases. Of these, seven are high profile ones and have raised the expectationsof the Bureau.
