Should we look at Diwali only as the biggest festival of India? Or does it spell a larger meaning to not only one particular community but to all the citizens of this country? Diwali is celebrated not only in homes but also in the offices. The business sector and various markets like commodity, cloth, utensils, automobiles and consumer goods show an upward trend during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali and Christmas. The bullion market remains strong too, despite the rising prices in yellow metal.
Diwali is the time to buy gold, especially on the Dhanteras day. The precious yellow metal has been looked upon as the safest mode of investment after immovable property, not only in India but in most countries of the world. The gold trend has been always been up if one looks at the century old graph of gold prices. Festivals are the season for purchases in gold and diamonds “ for investment as well as marriages. The prices of gold may touch the sky but Diwali witnesses sizable purchases of gold.
P N Gadgil, Tanishk, Chintamanis, Lagu Bandhu, Waman Hari Pethe, Orra, Phorum Jewels, Manek Gems, Tara Jewellers and many more have introduced designer jewellery showrooms in Goa adding to the local state-of-the-art showrooms like Ulhas Jewellers and Anta Jewellers.
Festivals bring in happiness and ignite the mood for shopping expensive things. But only this aspect of the festival like Diwali need not be highlighted. For a common man, Diwali brings extra joy as the otherwise routine life takes U turn. One should look at such festivals as a reason for families and friends to come together and celebrate. The scattered members of the family travel to their ancestral homes and spend time with their elders. Children of the house get to meet their cousins and play together.
Firecrackers, rangoli, games, snacks and Diwali special magazines adorn homes. And this is in most of the homes in cities as well as villages. Diwali is not restricted to only Hindu families. But it is now a worldwide festival celebrated globally, in most countries.
