This announcement was made by EDC’s chairman Sidharth Kuncalienker.
Kuncalienker said, “We have 400 square meters of space on the fourth floor of EDC House. In the last board meeting, we deliberated about how to use this space. One option was to lease it to banks or to some office to earn some income. But, all our directors were of one view that this space should be used productively to promote entrepreneurship
in Goa.”
He continued, “So, we decided to have an incubation-cum-acceleration centre on our 4th floor to promote entrepreneurship in the state. We are working on modalities to have this up and running.”
The upcoming incubation centre in EDC House is really going to help start-ups because such companies find it very difficult to find office space.
Being in Panaji will also help start-ups because internet connectivity in the capital city is a lot better than other parts of Goa.
Kuncalienker further said, “We are trying to associate with accelerators for the incubation centre because that will help in creating right kind of environment for the start-ups. We are also trying to tie-up with NITI Aayog in this regard.”
At the moment, CIBA is running two incubation centres in the state. Apart from that, STPI (Software Technology Parks of India) is also coming up with an incubation centre in Udyog Bhawan in Panaji.
But, there are a lot of start-ups in the state, which find it tough to find office-space in the initial years of operation.
Considering that, the upcoming incubation-cum-acceleration centre in EDC House will provide a much needed alternative to start-ups to set up their base.
