Onion prices hit a new low

Rates of most vegetables on Friday remained stable as compared to last week and are expected to retain stability due to unseasonal rains. rnThe rates of onion, however, continued to crash.

Due to rise in supplies from Maharashtra and north Karnataka region, onion that used to cost anything between Rs 600 to Rs 1000 has crashed to below Rs 500 to Rs 800 per quintal, due to which the retail rates too have considerably reduced.

Onion costs as low as Rs 7 to Rs 10 per kilo in the retail market-- a fact that is expected to impact rates in the Goa vegetable market as well.
