The Merces Club is focused on providing a platform for theboys of Merces to improve their skills in volleyball, football and carom. Thefootball team was in the second division last year and slipped into the thirddivision this season. The club was very strong in volleyball and was thedominant power for twenty year. The football team has been a starting point forseveral players who have gone on to play in Sesa Goa, Salgoacar and Dempo. Aproduct of the Merces club is Inacio who is now part of a professional team inthe state. The under 16 team has won GFA tournaments in the past. The under 14team is full of talented players from the area of Merces.
Running a club is tough business. We have no sponsors and wereceive money from the Panchayat fund and from local builders. We participatein village tournaments and win money. The absence of a regular sponsor makes itvery difficult and every year it is a battle. We need a sponsor desperately. In the past we won a lot of cups but neverearned any money. We need to go back to the days when we won all those cups andyes earn some money to sustain or club. We need a sponsor desperately and weare hoping someone will come forward and help us. I would also like our team tomove up to the second division as soon as possible, this will be a boost to ourclub. - Armstrong Braganza

The club was formed in 1963 by a group of people keen onproviding the youth of the area a platform to develop skills in volleyball,football and carrom. The team was created to provide direction to the youth andto help them develop skills useful to them in the playground and in life.
