Congwomen for probe in constable death

MARGAO

Claiming that family members have raised strong suspicions behind the death of lady police constable Harshela Parsekar (20), attached to the Verna police station, the Mahila Congress on Monday demanded immediate suspension of PSI Gautam Shetkar pending a thorough probe into

the circumstances leading to the death.

Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho further demanded to know why the police did not record the dying declaration of the deceased constable when she was battling for life at the Goa Medical College and hospital. The Mahila Congress has set a seven-day deadline on the government to suspend and arrest PSI Shetkar or face ire of the women on the streets.

Addressing the media in the presence of Mahila Congress leaders, Pratima said the family has evidence at their disposal showing that the deceased LPC and PSI Gautam Shetkar were reportedly friendly with each other. “When the family members had brought LPC Harshela Parsekar to GMC after she complained of pain and dizziness, the doctors after conducting tests, including sonography,  unearthed traces of Ratol in her body. This goes to suggest that the constable was poisoned with Ratol. Otherwise, she herself would have confessed to her family that she had consumed poison,” he said.

The Mahila Congress chief said the police should immediately interrogate the PSI and lady police constable Ashlikha Fernandes to find out the circumstances behind the mysterious death of  Harshela. “Deceased Harshela had joined LPC Ashilika Fernandes for her birthday party, where PSI Gautam had also attended on January 28. There’s an urgent need to find out whether Harshela’s drinks were spiked with Ratol.”
