Why single Remo out?

The issue of citizenship is being blown out of proportion. Remo is a singer of international fame and repute. If not for his music, we would not have even known who he is. Just another citizen like millions of others; which is who he would have been. So many voluntarily give up their Indian Nationality to opt for citizenship of other nations, does that become an issue?

The manner in which Remo's citizenship is being debated and blown into an issue is a bit sad. Is Remo an elected representative or a government official? The only charge against Remo is of uttering a few harsh words to the minor girl involved in his son's accident. As of now, this is merely an accusation and Remo has outrightly denied having said the same. No independent witness has corroborated this and it is easily possible there could have been a misunderstanding in interpretation of words. But is the charge so serious so as to warrant a look-out notice against him or to charge him under sections which prescribe imprisonment for up to three years and/or a fine of up to Rs one lakh?

Good game

Where Esperanto failed, the game of foot-ball succeeded. In the recently concluded ISL Goans forgot their differences. Every Goan understood the other Goan through football. The greatest achievement of ISL in Goa was the sense of oneness it created into the minds and hearts of the Goans. The loss was shocking but credit must go to Chennai for inflicting this loss on Goa by playing the right game at the right time. A team leading by one goal that cannot hold its opponents for two minutes more has no right to win the match. As a footballer during my younger days I suggest FC Goa team members, management, followers and fans to accept this otherwise unacceptable defeat sportingly.

As pointed out by Zico, allowing only six Indian players to represent each team is a mistake because it does not help the promotion of local talent instead it shadows local talent from developing. The fiasco between Elano and Dattaraj Salgaocar was a black mark on the otherwise successfully organised ISL. I don’t say Elano was innocent but in the absence of his version of what provoked him to act thus, I am unable to inflict the whole blame on him

‘Foreign’ politicians

The government must probe Goan politicians of Portuguese/non-Indian citizenship or those in process of acquiring the same. There are several politicians including panchayat members who fall in the same. This is extremely dangerous for Goa, as it is quite evident that their loyalties lie elsewhere and they will loot and destroy the land to the maximum, so as to help them to have a "fantastic" life in their new chosen lands. Then the people who live in Goa will have to face the consequences. I doubt the BJP government will do the same. But I hope they prove me wrong.
