Mormugao police on Saturday registered an offence against Atul Jadav and five others, after they allegedly threatened a Stevedoring officer with dire consequences for undertaking barge-loading and ship-loading activities of a leading mining company.

According to Mormugao police, a representative of a mining major filed a complaint against Atul Jadav, Pascoal D’Souza, Peolino, Sanjive Naik, N K Singh and Rupesh Shivlingekar, accusing them of trespassing into the house of Krishna Kambli on Friday night and threatening him with dire consequences.

According to the complaint, the incident took place at around 8.20 pm on Friday night, when Jadav and five friends visited the house of Kambli and threatened him to stop barge-loading and ship-loading activities of the company.

The complainant added that Jadav and five others took a hammer from Kambli's and threatened to kill him and damage the engine of the barges.

Mormugao police informed that Kambli is employed as an Operational and Stevedoring officer for a Stevedoring agent at Vasco, the stevedoring agent for the company.

The police have registered the case against Jadav and the five others under Sections 452, 506, 143, 147, 148 read with 149 IPC and PSI Rushikesh K Patial is investigating the case.

Despite efforts, Jadhav could not be contacted for comments in the matter.

Speaking to The Goan, a barge owner claimed that the Goa Barge Owners Association (GBOA) members were aggrieved that Kamli had bypassed the GBOA and had loaded two barges on Friday.

According to a barge owner, Kambli had earlier operated barges under rotation through the GBOA.

Without informing the association, Kambli loaded two barges on Friday and they were on its way from Sanvordem to the port, the barge owner said.

“The association members immediately convened a meeting at their GBOA office and decided to stop the barges at Cortalim, but as it was late they then tried calling Kambli on his mobile,” said the barge owner.

“When Kambli failed to respond to repeated calls, Jadhav and other five members of GBOA visited Kambli at his residence and “requested” him not to load any more barges till November 18.”

“They claimed that members of GBOA was to meeting with Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to resolve their problem,” added the barge owner.

According to sources, Jadhav along with the other five members also met the owner of the stevedoring company and placed the same request before him.
